Why 15 minutes and why HIIT?
HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) has been all the rage for last 5 years but do you fully understand why? I could go into the science of it all but lets just break it down to a couple simple sentences and how to make it work for you.
1. Your goal is to get your heart into the Anaerobic Zone. This is the zone you can only sustain for 20-30 seconds. You know you are in this zone when you feel like your heart is going to beat out of your chest and you can’t talk. Your job is to get there fast and hold it for the designed time. Then let your body rest and repeat.
2. Why the heck would you want to do this? When we repeatably hit that “Anaerobic Zone” we freak all the the chemical reactions in the body. After your workout your body uses calories to replace all those chemical reactions back to where they belong. This process is call EPOC (Excess Post Oxygen Consumption). So in short your continue to burn calories after you workout.
